The Virtual Hospital
New technological capacities have dramatically improved patient environments, increasing their comfort and their access to information. Current inpatient and outpatient services will soon no longer meet most patients’ needs. Therefore, we must improve the entire hospital information system to allow real-time access to long-term diagnostic and treatment data, handing of electronic medical records, appropriate and efficient support for decision-making, and improvements in outpatient services and inpatient communication systems.
Patients would then be able to gain instant access to information about their care, including test results and pathways that will help them adjust their expectations for each day they are hospitalized.
We also plan to have advanced communication iCloud systems that allow multi-site consultation, thus creating a health information network to link physicians, hospitals, and affiliated health care providers with our academic medical center.
